Three projects have been shortlisted from entries received from members of Concrete Repair Association. They include:

SIKA Ltd with their Sustainable Concrete Repair, MonoTop® Sustainable range

Congratulations!

The judges commented, “as sustainability becomes evermore important, this becomes a step on the road to quantifying the environmental impact of everything that we do in the field of concrete repairs.
This helps the concrete repair industry move forward as we can justify the benefits of repair over asset replacement.”

Innovation of the Year – Highly commended

Currall Lewis & Martin (Construction) Ltd –

Currall Lewis & Martin (Construction) Ltd for its HAVS prevention drilling tool innovation, which was created during their repair works on the A38 for Highways England (now National Highways), a scheme of work which was commissioned through Kier Highways.

Balvac Ltd –

Balvac Ltd for its HAVS-free concrete breakout innovation to drive down vibration exposure when undertaking structural concrete repairs, during work on the Queensway Tunnel Concrete Repair project.

Project of the Year:

The Concrete Repair Association Project of the Year Award recognises projects of exceptional achievement in the repair or refurbishment of an existing structure. The judging panel considered each entry in terms of complexity, quality of service, innovation and environmental considerations of the project.

Three projects have been shortlisted from entries received from members of Concrete Repair Association. They include:

  • Mapei & Gunite – The Chocolate Factory, Bristol
  • CRL & Fosroc – Milford Towers Estate
  • Balvac – M60 Palatine Road Bridge

The winner is…

Balvac Ltd with their M60 Palatine Road Bridge Project

Congratulations!

The judges felt this was a standout submission that managed a number of complex issues to produce a successful outcome.
Top quality example of where the CRA provides sustainable solutions to prevent the need for new construction.

Project of the year – Highly commended

Mapei Ltd and Gunite Ltd –

Mapei Ltd & Gunite Ltd and their joint work on the Elisabeth Shaw Chocolate Factory in Bristol. The factory was originally built in 1915 and produced over 250 tonnes of chocolate each week. In 2006, it shut its doors for the last time. The factory is now being developed into prestigious apartments, meaning a novel method of restoring and, importantly, strengthening the structure was required.

CRL & Fosroc Ltd  –

Fosroc Ltd & Concrete Repairs Ltd for their joint work on Milford Towers Estate, London.
Fosroc worked closely with CRL to provide a product specification that addressed the defects identified in the CRL Survey Report and helped overcome the numerous challenges involved, such as:

• Dealing with the residents
• Maintaining accessibility to commercial and residential areas
• Health and safety of the public
• Rapid return to service (to minimise disruption)
• Making the once condemned, brutalist structure a safer and more attractive place for people to live and work in.

Congratulations to all of our award winners and the highly commended winners likewise.

It was fantastic to finally be able to meet face-to-face for the first time since the pandemic and we were really pleased with how many members were able to join us for the awards.

A special thanks to our photographer for the evening, Katrina Duffey, who captured some fantastic shots which you can see in the slideshows above and also below. Thanks also to the amazing band, Deuce, who set the tone for the evening and even got some of our guests up and dancing!
